The Whitsunday Reef Festival will see the arrival of a new event in 2012. In step with the festival's combining with the Fun Race organised by the Whitsunday Sailing Club, Saturday morning at Airlie Beach proper will see the first ever running of a "blind man's dinghy race".
The rules for the event are simple one or more blindfolded oars-people will take verbal instructions from a coxswain to propel themselves around two marks 100 metres from the beach and back to the finish line.
There will be two classes, providing for youth and adults to compete and free to enter. Fabulous prizes will be announced closer to the event.
This Blind Man's Dinghy Race will add to a bumper morning at Airlie Beach festival Saturday with markets, sand sculpting and people going to participating in the Fun Race.
